Case Study: Logo Design for Jaguar en tu Sangre

Executive Summary

Jaguar en tu Sangre (“Jaguar in Your Blood”) is a contemporary streetwear label celebrating Latin American heritage and the primal power of the jaguar. Our studio was commissioned to craft a logo that would encapsulate the brand’s spirit—bold, dynamic, and deeply rooted in ancestral symbolism—while ensuring versatility across apparel, digital platforms, and physical retail environments.

Client Background

  • Name: Jaguar en tu Sangre

  • Industry: Apparel & Streetwear

  • Location: Mexico City, Mexico

  • Offerings: Limited-edition t-shirts, hoodies, and accessories featuring jaguar-inspired graphics fused with urban art aesthetics.

Founded by fashion designer Mariana López, Jaguar en tu Sangre aims to fuse indigenous iconography with cutting-edge street fashion. The brand champions wildlife conservation and cultural pride, reinvesting a portion of proceeds into jaguar habitat protection.

The Challenge

  1. Cultural Authenticity: Convey jaguar symbolism in a way that honors pre-Hispanic art without feeling derivative or cliché.

  2. Market Differentiation: Stand out in a saturated streetwear market filled with animal-themed logos.

  3. Scalability: Ensure the logo works at small sizes (e.g., garment tags) and large formats (e.g., store signage, event banners).

  4. Versatile Application: Create both full-color and single-ink lockups for varied printing processes and digital use.

Project Objectives

  • Memorable Icon: Develop a distinctive jaguar motif that can serve as a standalone mark.

  • Typographic Harmony: Pair the icon with a custom wordmark that reflects the brand’s urban edge.

  • Color Palette: Establish a primary palette inspired by jungle hues and a secondary palette for seasonal releases.

  • Brand Guidelines: Produce a concise guide detailing clear-space rules, color usage, and typography standards.

Design Process

  1. Research & Inspiration

    • Explored ancient Mesoamerican jaguar depictions and modern street art murals.

    • Conducted a competitive audit of animal-inspired streetwear brands to identify gaps.

  2. Conceptual Sketching

    • “Feral Geometry”: A jaguar head broken into angular facets, suggesting both predatory sharpness and modern geometry.

    • “Brushstroke Roar”: A gestural jaguar silhouette rendered in one continuous, calligraphic brushstroke.

    • “Glyph Emblem”: A monoline circle enclosing a jaguar profile, evoking ancient glyphs and stamps.

  3. Digital Refinement

    • Vectorized the top two concepts in Adobe Illustrator, testing weight, balance, and scalability.

    • Paired each icon with three typographic treatments: stencil-style sans serif, hand-lettered script, and condensed slab serif.

  4. Stakeholder Feedback

    • Presented mockups to Mariana and her core team via an online review board.

    • Gathered feedback on emotional resonance (“must feel powerful but not aggressive”) and usability across fabric colors.

  5. Finalization

    • Selected the “Feral Geometry” icon for its dynamic angles and strong silhouette.

    • Crafted a custom wordmark: a slightly condensed, angular sans serif with subtly tapered terminals to mirror the facets of the jaguar icon.

    • Defined two color palettes:

      • Primary: Jungle Green (#1B5E20) and Sunset Orange (#F57C00).

      • Secondary: Charcoal Black and Bone White for monochrome applications.

The Solution

  • Primary Logo Lockup: Feral Geometry icon to the left of the wordmark, aligning the icon’s nose tip with the top of the “J.”

  • Stacked Version: Icon centered above the wordmark for square-format prints (e.g., sweatshirts).

  • Monochrome Variant: Single-ink black and white versions for tags and embroidery
